Do any of you have any experience with the polymer Keel Guards. They are the 6inch wide strips that are adhesive backed. They are placed on the bow V area. I saw them and thought they may help protect while trailering ? Any thoughts? |

Yes, several of us have installed these on the Whaler. Start with a search using the very words in the title of this thread. This should give you an excellent start and perhaps be so thorough as to be a completion. May be back as far as 2 years, so be patient. |

I have one on my Montauk and love it. I dont use mine for trailering, but rather for when beached. Just spent the holiday at family beach cabin and the Montauk was awesome. big enough to crab with a few people on board comfortably and small enough to launch easily at our ramp and motor in the shallow water with the tide out. There is actually 3 others on the beach. A pair of mid 80's and an old blue pre-smirk. PSW |

These do look like something that would be worthwhile, however I can't believe that they are as expensive as they are ..... $150 range seems like a lot for what you are really getting. |

Look at http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001988.html . I added a comment so now its been pulled to the top. I agree with PWS, they are not really for trailering, more for beaching. In fact I ended mine down below the strakes (see the thread above for pictures) so the keel guard is not even up at the bow winch area of the trailer. For my Montauk, I went with five feet, now $124 plus shipping. What you are paying for is the high tech 3M adhesive. Well worth it to reduce worry and bow fiberglass repairs. |

I have a 6' Hamby's on my Montauk and it does not affect performance. The Hamby's, while expensive, is 1/2" thick at the vee point and about 1/8" where it blends to the hull. It must be professionally installed. Email me directly if you want photos. |

Bkane: By all means put it on, I have gone through 3 Whalers and I won't leave the dock without one. They are great for beaching and do not affect performance, go for it, you will love Fred |

They don't affect performance at all since at any reasonable amount of speed the area covered is out of the water. PSW |

Thank you all for your opinions. Sorry for not searching first. Taylor thank you for getting that older thread it really answered my questions. Now with all the good reports I guess I better order it. Thanks again P.S. I gotta say this is a great site with all the depth of knowlege. BK |
