I have revived this thread because I am interested to see if anyone has heard about the availability of diagnostic software for Johnson or Evinrude outboards. I am most interested in being able to read the memory in my 2002 Johnson 90.

I would like to get a copy of the software if it has become available over the past year. I haven't had any luck finding it on the internet.

thanks,
ron

Sure it's available.
All you have to do is go to a Bombardier dealer & order the floppy & the cable & either own a laptop of a palm pilot for which you must connect to your desktop & put the info thats stored in the palm pilot from the engine into it.
The lap top is what I have & it's a snap.
You should only run the engine with the lap top connected while the lap top is on battery, not 120 volts because if everything isn't connect perfect, the 120 volts can fry the engine.
The whole deal minus the lap top will cost under $100.
I'v used my lap top , cable & floppy for 3 years now, it tells you exactly how many minutes or hours you have run at every rpm.
I tells you if theres water in your internal fuel filter & just about everything thats going on in your engine & it's condition.
One day my check engine light came on, I put the lap top to it & it said, your number 4 coil wire is loose.
I wouldn't be without it.
If your dealer balks at selling it to you, go to another dealer, he will sell you one.
I don't know of anywhere on the web you can get one.

Sal,

Is your motor a Ficht? I have a "regular" carb'ed Johnson 90 and I am not having any luck finding a dealer who lists the software in their books. If your motor isn't a Ficht, what is the part number of the software kit you bought?

Thanks,
ron

Don't think anything but DFI & 4 strokes have software.

Bigshot's right.
I'm almost certain only the injected engines have it.

I thought it was possible for the dealer to download, from a Johnson outboard, all of the recent RPM data. Is this limited only to the Ficht outboards?

I'v got a post on another board to a buddy who is on the inside of the omc bomb works.
I asked what the skinny is on the carbed johnsons of 1999.
I asked if they do hook up to a computer as the FICHT & can they pull the same info out as the FICHTS.

I believe that data can only be downloaded from outboard controlled by an Engine Control Module (ECM) or simply a digital computer. That rules out carb two strokes and four strokes and leaves EFI two and four strokes and DFI two strokes.

Clark is right.
My buddy just got back to me & said, nope, the carbed 2 strokes are still the engines of the past with no computer.
