Topic: console loose on montauk 17

need advice how to reattach consult to deck of my 1985 montauk as screws have worked loose and and have left holes on deck. Do i use epoxy and recement the screws into filled holes.? help Thanx David

decfishfoto, I had the same thing happen to my 1994 16SL, that being said what I did was drill out the hole larger then needed and refilled will new fiberglass beads mixed with epoxy.. after it cured I re-drilled and added a layer of sealer before screwing down the consule... that was 3 years ago.. still solid.... goodluckKeith UnderDog btw. David; My 1980 Montauk console came loose when the wood pieces screwed into the deck beneath the console rotted out. My console had angled trim wood beside the console, thru which long screws angled into the wood pieces beneath the console. I backed out the screws, tilted the console forward, replaced the rotten wood with SeaTeak pieces (like starboard, I believe)that I had cut to size, screwed the Seateak pieces to the deck in the footprint of the old pieces, sealing the screws with 5200, then predrilled the Seateak, replaced the console and cranked down those angled screws thru the side trim. No more movement. No water intrusion. best of luck scott |
