Talked to my Yamaha dealer today looking for a new fuel pipe joint component on my fuel hose that plugs into the fuel pipe joint at the engine. He suggested that I remove the pipe joint from the engine and the hose, run a hose directly from the water separator through the opening where the fuel pipe joint on the engine was and connecting it directly to the filter assembly inside the engine. I can see both advantages and disadvantages to this but am not so inclined to follow his suggestion. Is anyone doing this ? The inability to quickly remove the fuel line from the engine bothers me.

That is how my pair of Opti 135s are installed. It has never caused any problems. If need be, there is a shutoff valve on the tank, or you can remove the water separator to cut fuel to the engine. If you need to remove the engine, you;ll be under the cowl anyway to unhook the control cables and electrics. The big advantage is you eliminate a common trouble spot that can suck air into an engine's fuel supply. When that happens, the engine runs lean, then hot, then melts piston tops.
