After reading the info contained in this website am considering adding a jack plate to my 1982 outrage which is powered by a 1997 150hp Evinrude. I am considering the Rite Hite brand:

Any thoughts, suggestions???

I added a 5” setback manual Bobsmachine shop jack plate to my Montauk with a 1991 100GT, and I am very happy overall with it and am glad that I did it Make sure you have a solid transom first. Also you should check this out. http://continuouswave.com/whaler/cetacea/cetaceaPage41.html This is not my boat but the brand at which you are looking. Archie

I considered this when I repowered my boat 2 months ago. I asked the dealer if I should go with a 20" shaft and a jackplate or a just 25" shaft. I needed to take delivery of the motor before a dealine to get the free extended warranty deal. The dealer I asked only had the 20" shaft motor in stock. Another dealer had a 25" in stock. His recommendation was to buy the 25" (from the other dealer with whom he has no affiliation other than friendship). I don't remember has exact reasoning but I believe it dealt with the steering cable setup and with general clearance issues.

BTW - My boat is an '89 Outrage 18.
