Supposedley stopped making them ... at least for awhile. This is going on a Katama. Could I very carefully use a flat based stand mounted to either side of the anchor well ?

Hang in there, B4DB.

If you "jerry-rig" something a Pick mount will show up for sale the next day.

Red sky at night. . .

I have a 15' Striper with the Pick... Industries bulkhead seat mount. Good set-up.

A previous owner modified the anchor well cover by installing a flat flange post mounted seat base in the center. This works exceptionally well for a butt post when operating in the bow, using the trolling motor and casting for Muskies. It works as a proverbial "third leg" in that I can take weight off of one foot to operate the electric motor without challenging my balance too much.

I'm not sure how this translates to the Katama, but its something to consider.

I hope so JB, should have bought your set up last fall. prj, thought has crossed my mind. did the guy use a low profile pedestal to keep center of gravity low ? I got a bum knee so would like it as high as possible. How is the locker hatch stabilized so as to not teeter and wobble ? I was thinking some kind of buckle set up or some kind of set up run down from the hatch and out thru the drain tube that would pop or snap tight and would release loose. Unfortunately I have plenty of time because I got more important projects on this mama and this weather ain't cooperating. It rains almost every weekend (and every weekday) here in Ballmer (Baltimore) something like 31 out of last 41 days. Wassup wit dat ? I don't get. We have never...never seen anything like this. Next door neighbor is from England said this is much worse than her homeland. Depressing. Last year the opposite, we had a major drought. Oh well, if its not one thing it is another.

Bang, the post base is the wedge type and is equiped with a post seat that allows me to sit high (I'm 6'), knees bent gently at an obtuse angle. Good operation of foot pedal trolling motor without applying weight to it (all weight on other foot, butt pad). The issue of center of gravity height seldom comes into play in our inland lakes with lower chop, no swells.

This post works best for casting large heavy Muskellunge lures, up to 10" and 2.5 oz. If the chop is larger, wind is higher, etc..., I sit down in the bulkhead pedestal seat, sorry.

There is no problem with the anchor locker lid supporting me at 185 or my 250 lb friend. It is a single panel of mahog marine grade, perhaps a full 1", someone might clarify or correct me on stock item for '88 Striper.

I have operated with a conventional pedestal base bolted through the hatch lid of my 15 SS for years. If you don't have an anchor rope interfering with the lid "setting" in its natural position, it seems quite stable, even with the seat adjusted high. Eventually, you tend to loosen up the hinge screws, and if not careful to keep them tight, you'll end up having to replace them with larger diam. SS screws or else fill and drill to restore the channels for the original screws. Now if their were some kind of dowel pin setup on the cover that engaged the aft edge of the anchor well, the excessive play that loosens the screws could be removed and it would be stable indeed (IMHO).

Oh yeah, I got one of them there OLD whalers (1968). My anchor hatch is missing but it was more of a lid any ways. It is not a hinged set up. I'm pushing 215 and am using a hand controlled setup. I can make one out of teak or marine plywood. I'd rather have the Pick set up though.
