The throttle control gets stuck in the mid fwd position. Broke every thing apart and appears to be in the guts of the engine/throttle control (and/or maybe the cable for fwd/reverse). Can play with it internally to get it loose, however, evetually becomes stuck (and I mean stuck) again. Cables are really appear fine. Where would be a good place to locate a replacement engine control. It is mounted on a 1984 15' Center Console (classic), so I'm seeking the top/console mount vs. the side mount. Can an aftermarket control be used? Does it need to be OMC specific? Control also has the trim switch mounted on the side of the top of the handle.

Finally got the boat out of storage today... always seems to be a challenge to encounter every season (last year was the steering cable).

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

Dug into it deeper. New controls are needed. Any feedback on specific models/mnfters would be appreciated (morse, teleflex - although teleflex now owns morse, I think..., or others).

You can play with it internally and get it unstuck, but you can't figure out how to permanently fix it?

There's like 15 moving parts inside the control? Take the 2 that interfere with one another out, carry them to the OMC dealer and say "Get me one of each".

Then, go to the nearest Teleflex Dealer, and order a new set of cables. Between the new cables, and a new set of whatever was hanging up inside the control box, you should be good to go...

Alternatively, you can call your favorite Honda, Merc or Yamaha dealer and ask if they just took any OMC controls off anything. They're probably just tossing them in their dumpster...

Ordered a new controller. Talked w/ the folks at Charmin who were great. They sent me a diagram of my current controller which I'll mess with later. To much water to run on over the 4th holiday and not enough time to mess with the old one at this moment.

Off to dumpster dive at the local Honda dealer-
