What's the best way to repair a fairly deep (into the fiberglass) scratch on the cowling of a yamaha? Thanks, dermdaddy.

I used "Liquid Metal" from Permatex on my Evenrude cowling. Comes in a small tube, and you can pick it up at most Auto Parts stores.

As I recall, for deeper holes you should apply it in layers. When Dry sand and paint.

I'm on my second season with the repair, still looks good as new.

If the scratch is entirely inside the graphics area, you can do the structural repair with any variety of fillers and then cover it with a new yamaha graphic, most of which can be reproduced, enlarged, or otherwise enhanced by a good vinyl sign shop. If the damage extends substantially outside the graphics area you'll have to repaint.
