I am considering replacing the wiring harness in my '85 Montauk. What I would like is a minimal amount of attachments at the battery(engine and harness). I would like to run the harness up the transom into the center console and to a bus/fuse box. Therefore, I could attach the accessories using shorter wires and if I chose to change an accessory out or add one, all I would have to do it wire it to the bus/fuse box.

The problem is, everywhere I go (limited to Boat US, West Marine so far), I am being told there are no aftermarket wiring harnesses and that I would have to construct it myself. Electrical work is not my strongest skill and I would rather not.

Any suggestions??

There really is no wiring harness for your boat. Most have just a light wiring harness through the tunnel and maybe a blge if factory. Any other wiring was done by the dealer and is specific to your engine or electronics. You are on your own grasshopper.
