I need to clean up my teak and reapply the oil. I have used the two part acid and nuetralizer before, but only on parts that had been removed from the boat. If I prewet the surface, will this product (acid cleaner) have any effect on my gelcoat? Anyone have nay good luck with other cleaners? (the stuff I am using is made by Travaco)

Thanks
Dan

Howdy, HSM.

I have had my best luck with Star Brite cleaner on installed teak.

As far as I am concerned there is no better product than
Travco Tea-Ka.
The only Star Brite products I carry in the store is their bottom cleaner and mildew remover. Both work very well but I have no experience with the teak cleaner.
Cant't see switching when I am happy with what I have.

Dick-

Do you use it dirctly on teak that is mounted on the boat (gunnel covering board for instance) and will it hav any effect on the gelcoat?

I have never seen a reaction on the gel coat but that doesn't mean that it can't happen. Use caution and mask off areas like step pads.

Might strip wax but NEVER hurt my gel.

It's not your gel coat that's the problem. Teaka will stain your PVC on your rub rail (assuming you have a PVC rub rail like me) it will stain it brown and it is almost impossible to remove the stain.

If I get it on my rubrail on a 17'.....I am really impaired:)
