Any suggestions for an "easy to fit in" fuel tank for my Montauk. I want to replace the 2 six-gallon tanks with a single tank. Can I fuel up with the single tank? I've always removed the 6's before filling. |

Most here either run the Pate 27(fiberglass and OEM Whaler) or the plastic Tempo 27 which is commonly referred to as the 28. You can not remove them to fill unless you are really strong being they weigh about 230lbs full. Pate is roughly $400 and Tempo is a tad over $100. Pate is also desert tan or white to match boat, tempo is red. |

the Moeller 26 gallon is also red and is also right around $100. |

Your last choice is to get twin 12 or 13 gallon tanks. Tempo makes them in red plastic for $40 each at Bass Pro (plus fittings needed) or you can get them in metal from Mirax, but considerably more. A search will give you info on the Mirax option. I use a set of the Tempo 13's under my 18 Outrage RPS for extended range, and for me, they have been fine. |

The Reference section of the Boston Whaler section of the continuousWave website has a article that discusses on-deck fuel tanks, with a special emphasis on using them with a Montuak. See: http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/onDeckFuelTank.html |

Ahoy, Hiatus. I use the Tempo 2814 (27-28 gallon) tank in my Montauk. If I ever need to replace it It will be with 2 Tempo 12 gallon tanks. Reasons? 1. I can manhandle a 12 a lot easier than a 28, and always transfer leftover fuel from the boat to my vehicle when she is going to be put up for a while. 2. It is a chore to monitor the guage. With 2 tanks there would be more certainty about how much fuel I really have. Red sky at night. . . |

Hiatus, I also use the Tempo 13 galllon tanks. I replaced the filler caps with low profile ones from Wal-Mart. The 13 gallon tanks also leaves enough room for the correct fuel mixture. (12 1/2 gallons fuel-2 pints oil). The tanks are easier to mannuever and you know if you run out of gas with the first tank you can always get back on the second. Lastly the price is right at Bass Pro Shops as mentioned above. Good luck!! Bill |
