A friend of mine has a set of Bennett trim tabs, and the dual-rocker switch unit that came with it (BEN RS1000) are not sealed. Unsurprisingly, the switch corroded and now doesn't function. Instead of shelling out $60 for another switch that I know will only last a few years, has anyone come up with a waterproof option?

I believe Cole/Hersee sells a flat rocker style three way switch for about $9.00 ea. These are momentary on/off/ momentary on. They are also suitable for power trim switches. They are quite resistant to corrosion. I think West carries them. Steve

Thanks, Steve. Wouldn't I need a 3 position switch that is momentary on - off - momentary on?

Yes, three position. Depress up or depress for down. Unactivated (middle) would be "off". Steve

Oops, sorry, Steve. My misreading your earlier post caused me to ask what you had already stated.

I looked through West's site, and didn't see any 3-position rockers made by Cole Hersee that said they were waterproof. I did, however, see these that have "gasket sealed housings":

Are they what you are referring to?

I have seen a transluscent rubber cover made to fit over the Bennet double rocker. Sort of like those keyboard condoms for your computer on a much smaller scale. Don't know who makes it, only saw it on some new boat show rigs.

ShrimpBurrito,

My name is Christian, and I work in Client Services at Bennett Marine.

I'm sorry to hear that your friend had a problem with his Rocker Switch Control. You mentioned that it's only a few years old, right? Our trim tab kits, including the switches, carry a five year warranty. Have your friend call or email me and I'd be glad to get a new switch for him under warranty.

Also, we do have a Waterproof Rocker Switch. The part number is RSW1000.

Mine unsealed switches have been exposed for 8 years - No problems! Love those Bennetts. Just about the only thing on the boat that hasn't been replaced three times.

Bennett has fantastic customer service. I know. I have seen their waterproof switches at the local surplus store, not sure of price though. My rockers are 16 years old and work like a gem.

Speaking with Christian was my first direct contact I've had with Bennett, and I too can now say that I've personally experienced Bennett's top-notch customer service.

ShrimpBurrito,

I assume that the new Rocker Switch arrived OK? I hope that the replacement switch took care of the problems you were experiencing. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.
