Yes Ive read the article. Says port side transom, but the classic 15 tends to be very weight trim sensitive on the beam. If you are solo and sit on the staboard she tends to lean to the starbord when running. The article says to install or port side yet every one Ive seen had it was on the starboard. The Garmin manual shows a picture of the 240 Blue transducer on the staboard side with the speed wheel mounted on the port side. Only want to do this once with the holes and all. Id glue on if I thought it would stay. What say Ye?

Mine's on the Port side, and it feeds air at anything over 25-30mph. However, if you intend to use it for finding fish, you generally don't troll at 25mph. If you use it for finding shallows, by the time you see it's 2' deep at 25mph, your skeg and prop are eating bottom.Want to try different locations? Mount it to a 1"x4" and clamp it to the transom... (use a safety rope too). Then you can try before you drill... |

The Airmar instruction sheet on my newest transducer says the starboard side at least a foot away from the centerline of the prop.I've installed them on both sides with success. I think that the primary issue is clean water from ahead. No strakes or other forms of hull obstructions should be in front of the transducer. Next, be sure that the transducer is mounted with its bottom surface slightly below the hull and the forward edge of the transducer slightly higher than the aft edge. It seems to me that the one foot rule (away from the prop) is a good general guide also. Its nice if the transducer is mounted so that the trailer bunks or rollers can't kick up or damage the transducer when recovering the boat after a run. |

The pro who installed mine, on a 13 Sport, installed it just like SSCH said, above, including on starboard side. I use mine to look for shallows, sometimes pretty fast. Seems like, with the lean to starboard, that would be the side. |
