I am going to be trailering my montauk quite a long distance soon and wanted to change out my trailer bearings. I can't figure out a way to get the bearing buddies off the hubs without damaging them. THey are the model 1890's and I believe are not threaded- just wedged into the hub. Anyone have any tricks to get them off in re-useable condition? Thanks

Never mind, I found the bearing buddy web site and their question/answer section is excellent.

Speck, I don't know what they recommend, but just this weekend I used a lead hammer to gently whack the buddies off. Excellent use for an exceptionally odd tool.

A rubber mallet works well and saves the finish on the BBs.

A standard steel hammer and a scrap piece of wood can be used.

Interpose the scrap wood between the Bearing Buddies and the hammer. Alternate sides, hitting about 180-degrees apart.
