1997 Yamaha V6-150 Saltwater Series II - Remote electric choke quit working. Had to start with the manual choke on the motor. Any ideas what the problem is?

Assuming that the 97 Yamaha chokes are basically similar in design to the 87 Yamahas, could be choke solenoid, wiring connections at the solenoid, remote switch itself, or choke linkages need lubricating. Check the solenoid piston to see if it moves freely. There is a procedure to test the solenoid with an ohm meter to see if it needs replacing. Again, this is assuming that the 97 Yamaha chokes are similar in design to the 87.

Is the remote choke usually fused?

I do not believe that the remote choke SWITCH is fused separately. When the switch is flipped by the operator, it energizes the solenloid, pulling in the solenoid piston which is connected to the choke linkages on the engine. The electrical power fo this comes from the power feed going to the engine. The only fuse that I am aware of is the main 20 amp fuse for the engine.
Check for loose or broken wires at the switch or solenoid and as mentioned before, check for the solenoid piston moving freely.
