Is there a consensus on the best repair/service mauual for a 1993 Evinrude 100? Best source and pricing? It would be used mostly for routine maintenance, tuning, etc. Thanks, Mike

Try this URL.http://www.repairmanual.com/marine/2 Afer I had searched for one the former owner of my 1981 Johnson remembered that he had one and gave it to me. I did a Google search for "Johnson outboard motor manual" and got a ton. Mostly around $36.00 or so. Happy shopping, Bob on Tampa Bay |

I have 2....one is the standard Seloc or whatever and the other is OMC I think in a binder. If interested, let me know but I will not be able to check until next wed when i return home. |

Mike - I have the Clymer's manual pictured on the site that is mentioned above, and although better than nothing, it's like a Chilton's. Generally non-specific, and not very thorough. I haven't seen the OEM manual, but I'm looking for one. |

The OMC Manual is probably the best. I believe mine cost $50 from my local Johnson dealer. They can order one for you for any model year.Hank |

Thanks for the replies. I have a Clymer's for my kicker and agree it is pretty generic. Sounds as if the OMC book is the way to go.

Seloc is much better than Clymer, but you can probably find an OMC shop manual on eBay. |

rsgwynn1,I just checked Ebay and all they have is the Clymer manual. I have one and thought it was fairly detailed. I'll have to check out the OEM manual through my dealer. Bob on Tampa Bay |

Get the real OMC shop manual. Mine was cheaper than the one-size-fits-nine Clymers. I wish Haynes would make outboard manuals. Their car manuals are superb. Chuck

I suggest you buy both the OMC manual *and* an aftermarket manual. I have several of each and while the aftermarket manuals generally do cover a lot of ground with less specificity than the factory manual, they also cover subjects that are not covered by the factory manual.I assume this is because a factory trained mechanic is assumed to know the basics and thus only model specific information is included in the factory manual. The two types of manuals do overlap quite a bit but they are at their best when used together by a boat owner. I wouldn't make any distinction between the Seloc and Clymers aftermarket manuals, they are very comparable. One may be better for a specific brand or model than the other and vise versa. If you do order the factory manual, I highly recommend you order the parts manual to go with it. It will make it much easier to order parts and an exploded parts diagram is worth a thousand words. |

Thanks again everyone. Tom's route seems to cover all of teh bases, and I wouldn't have thought of the aftermarket books as adding useful info that the factory books would just assume. I have an OMC binder lined up, compliments of BigShot, and will check into the parts and aftermarket stuff after I see just what the OMC covers. Mike |

I have both an OMC and a Seloc for my v6 Johnson. I think there both good but if it came down to buying one I would go with the OMC manual as it has excellent detail and print quality. The Seloc manual may be broader in what it covers but I did loose a degree of faith in the manual when I went to service the power trim unit and found the instructions to be some what flawed (the process didn't apply to my engine and it should have) however I called the publisher and was directed to one of the books editors who was very generous and helpful in assisting with the correct service procedure. |
