An archive search revealed no ideas; prior owner of my 1980 Montauk cut two holes in the console, one fore, one starboard, in which to mount speakers. The wires were cut, speakers left, and electronics removed upon sale to me, and my VHF plans (Icom handheld) do not require the speakers/holes to be maintained. Now one of the speaker covers has cracked, and they both look crummy to me; I'm planning to remove the speakers and covers, and cover the holes, approx 4-5 inches in diameter. Seeking ideas for an inspired solution; I've considered varnished teak covers. The fore hole is in the back of the starboard passenger sitting on the cooler (no doubt how it cracked) so a flat solution is desirable there. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Scott |

Try these on for size. Link: http://www.pompanette.com/pompweb.nsf/c75399c61da21b27852567d2004ad97f/e50944406d8be2e3852567bc00053e45?OpenDocument At one time, they even came in Whaler "Desert Tan" as OEM parts. |

On my sailboat, I fixed a couple of speaker holes by removing the speakers and installing "inspection ports". Not the perfect solution but they come in various diameters, are cheap and easy to install. Check West, Boat US, etc. for the parts, I think they are about $10-$15 for 6" diameter. Good Luck |

Thanks Hoot and Line, those are the sorta things I was looking for; though I thought at first Hoot had a line on some pom-pom-oriented items.... |
