I have an 87' 15' Sport CC with a 96' 48 HP Johnson and OMC controls. The trim/tilt switch on the motor works, but the throttle mounted switch got intermittent, then stopped working at all. The throttle assembly looks original, so I don't suppose I'll be abe to get a replacement switch. I am hoping I won't have to replace the entire throttle assembly. Any ideas? Any troubleshooting checks I can run to find the problem? If it's just the switch, I suppose I could set up a dash mounted rocker switch, but I like having it on the throttle.

Install a mom on/off/mom on toggle switch on the dash. Cost about $5.00. It's not as convenient as the throttle mounted switch but works fine. I did mine last year.

Hello minimontauk, goto your local omc,johnson/evenrude dealer, they should be able to order you a new one for around twenty dollor or so. I had the same thing happen to my old engine, I found two problems, one was corroded contacts on the connector under the dash, the other was broken wires in the control arm. you may be able to patch both of these rather easy.

good luck

Underdog knows his stuff. Those are the two problem areas, and the parts should still be readily available. I bought parts to add the factory throttle handle mounted trim/tilt switch to my '85 back in '97. They weren't real difficult to get then...

I bought a new OMC binacle control with my 2000 Evinzuki. So far I have replaced the tilt and trim switch 3 times under warrenty. They last about a month. I am tired and will give up and mount a mom on/off/mon on switch on the dash. The OMC switches that fit 1996 and newer OMC controls are defective. 3 strikes and I'm out.

How about another suggestion. There's are two switches that attach to the steering wheel, one on it and the other, around the steering yoke. They're a bit more expensive than the other switches but they allow you to keep your hands on the wheel while adjusting the trim. I think they are around $50...I'm sure cabelas or your local marine supplier has them. Just another alternative...
