Am trying to relocate the extinguisher on a '82 Montauk. I have seen a couple of boats which have a recessed, "built-in" extinguisher in the starboard side of the center console. Does anyone know where the recessed compartment can be acquired?

Bob -

When I was back East this summer, there was a Boston Whaler fire extinguisher pocket (brand new) sitting in my Dad's basement. The receipt said Boston Whaler parts (or something like that), so either the dealers sell them or BW does. The pocket was purchased for my brother's '86 Montauk which had a broken black Lexan fire extinguisher pocket - but I fixed that so it looks like the pocket in the basement is just sitting there waiting for the next pocket failure.

If you're in no rush, let me know and I might be able to get my brother to send it to you. I won't be back East until next June.

The other day I was at boaters world and noticed that they sell a plastic recessed pocket which looked identicle to the one on my montauk(it's an '89)- Right down to the textured finish. You would have to fabricate your own trim around it to match the rest of the boat either teak or starboard, but it should be pretty easy as it is a simple rectangle. It caught my eye because I have a small crack in the back of my extinguisher recess and I remember thinking it would be real easy to swap it out for the one in the store if the crack lengthens. If I remember right, it think it was less than 20 dollars.

Boaters World, Boat U.S. or West Marine. They all should have the pocket. Wood trim you would have to do seperate. My 1997 outrage has no wood, so pocket is attached with stainless screws around the outer edge.

I put mine on the rear of the RPS leg. Fit is perfect and I didn't have to cut my console.

Thanks for all the input. But what is the RPS leg?

RPS stands for Reversible Pilot Seat.
I put a Maglite on the the other leg.

Raygun: Exactly how did you mount the extinguisher on the RPS leg?

I just drilled pilot holes and screwed the fire extingisher mount that comes with it to the back of the leg.
