I have a 1982 Outrage 25 with two 70 gal aluminum tanks.I recenntly installed a Racor fuel filter. When I use the bulb to prime the engine from the aft tank the bulb does not get firm does not get firm and seems to get softer after running the engine at idle for a brief period. Any suggestions? thanks Jim

Jim - make sure your bulb is oriented somewhat vertical when you squeeze it. There is a check-valve in the bulb and some bulbs will loose the seal if not positioned at least a bit vertical.

There may be some comments is related threads - perhaps 2 - 3 months ago.

Yup. As Jerry suggests; inlet up, outlet down.

It is also good to locate the bulb after the filter.

JB, the arrow on the bulb points to out flow, & the arrow needs to be pointed up, not down, for the check valve to work right.
As far as the ball getting soft after the engine starts, it's supposed to.
When you pump the bulb, your "pushing" fuel into the system & when the system is "full" the bulb gets hard, then when you start the engine, the fuel pump is "pulling" [ not pushing] the fuel & the preasure drops & the bulb softens, it's normal, don't worry about it.

I had the same problem, I too installed racor filters. A few weeks later same problem you have. I found that one of the fuel lines where there is a fitting to go thru motor well was loose. I tightened the hose clamp about 1/8 turn and problem fixed. It was loose enought to take in some air but did not leak. May want to check this aswell as the other posts. Good luck

I just went through something similar. My problem was with the anti-siphon valve on the main tank. This $12.00 part drove me nuts.

I had the same problem with a brand new fuel line w/bulb. The connection to the bulb, engine side, leaked air. I replaced the press fittings with stainless hose clamps and it solved it. Dave
