I have a 28 Gallon Tempo Gas tank in my 17 Montauk. Tank turned out great. I made some teak chocks about 30" long to hold in place. The placed the tank a few inches past the rear of the seat to give me just enough room to fill the tank but it does not stick out enough to look bad. My problem is with the tall standard cap that came with the tank. It can be a bugger to get off under the seat. I have read all the postings of people who found a low profile vented cap. I have searched every Lowes, Walmart, Home Depot, Hardware store, and lawn mower supply within 20 miles with no luck. I have been looking since July and it has become an obcession. Is anyone willing to pick one up for me at your local store if they have one. I can send money and will pay for the shipping costs. Thanks Whaler Fans. Look forward to your replies.

JB,
You are the best. The cap works great and gives me that extra inch under the seat. Payment is on the way. As for the other post...Yes, I also sawed of the fins on mine too, but the vent still stuck up high enough to give you a little trouble. The cap that JB picked up for me is about the third the height and also vented.

JB, you could make a nice business re-selling those gas caps. I believe that your local Walmart is the only one that sells them, because I have tried three Wallyworlds in my neck of the woods with no luck.

Check mower repair shops, Newt.

Snapper riders use a similar cap.
