Is there any disadvantage in bottom painting now while the weather is still fair and i have the time or wait til spring so the paint will be fresh when applied and the boat used, One boater suggested that the may lose some of its protective proerties over the winter.Any comments ...thanks. rich

No problem if you use an ablative paint. If you use an epoxy based paint, you must launch within a few days or oxidation will prevent further leaching of the copper, which is what keeps the marine growth off the hull. The ablative paint wears away like a bar of soap, exposing new copper each time you use the boat. |

Most ablative paints will require scrubbing or pressure washing in spring to "reactivate" prior to launching. |

I bought the interlux micron with biocide a multi season paint.it is not ablative although the co.says it acts like a bar of soap and stays clean and the boat can be hauled out season to season without negative effects.expensive at169.00a gal but defender .com has it for 154.00 |

Best bet is to wait for Spring! And it's better to paint as close to launchng as possible. For me I paint about a week before I launch. Ideal temp. should be around 70 degrees. |

Interlux Micron is an ablative paint. If you plan to paint the boat every year you can use Interlux ACT and get similar results for less money. |
