One of the many lingering pieces of debris left over from hurricane Isabel that I pass twice daily on my way to and from work is an old 13' smirkless whaler. It looks like it was in a building that collapsed (the building is, or was, on a low lying beach on the Chowan river. The beach was pretty severely flooded by the storm surge, with waves and high wind. It looks like in the cleanup effort, they just pushed the destroyed building, with whaler inside, into a big pile. There's about a 1' one 1' section of the starbord gunwhale near the front broken out, and all three bow "v's" are busted up (looks like about a 3' x 3' square area where the fiberglass is pretty much gone). It looks like some foam sculpting followed by some of my highly skilled fiberglass work (right) might put it back to a usable, but probably worthless, condition. I don't know if it's worth the effort though. I'm sure if I looked at it more closely, there'd be more previously unseen damage. It just seems to be a shame for it to get hauled off to the dump, which is certainly where it's headed. Just getting it off the pile of rubble might be more trouble than it's worth.
What do you think? If I would think to take some photos of it, I would send them to Jimh to post.

If you need help hauling it out, I can bring my tractor down and load it for you. Clear it with the owner of the building first. Might be a good winter project since the rock fish have left the rivers from Isabel. Speaking of Isabel......might not be a bad name for that old boat.....after she's put back together.

I like the name!

I'll look at it more closely Monday morning on my way to work and see if I can find out who owns it. If it looks like a project worth tackling, I'll let you know. Thanks for the offer on the tractor. That may be exactly what's needed to get it off the pile of rubble without damaging it even more.
