I was wondering if the gas cap on a pate tanks is vented or do you need to add one to the tank?
thanks for the help.

Yes, it is a vented cap. The tank may also be vented using the fitting opposite the fuel pick up tube, however this is not necessary for an above deck fuel tank.

HomeDad7-

What Whaler do you plan to use the Pate tank on? I found that because of the attitude of my 13 Whaler when first reaching a plane and also when running in a chop, the 12 gallon Pate I have mounted under the seat of my 13 leaked fuel through the vent if the tank had been filled above the 10 gallon level. I replaced the vented cap with a non-vented one and vented the tank with a hose that leads to a fitting on the outboard side of the console.

I installed a 22 gal pate in my Montauk 20+ years ago. Did not hinge the seat; just mounted the tank slightly aft so the filler neck would clear the seat cushion. Worked fine all of these years. As far as any leak problem, I replaced the old tank cap with a new one from Pate & no more leak. I can fill the tank to the brim and often do & no leak or vent problem.
My son & I installed a new Pate in his new Montauk 170. It is the largest one that fits under the new style rps. Used the classic grey mats. Again no need to hinge unless you want to.
