I don't want to jump the gun here by mentioning any names, but there is a fellow forum member working on the plans for the RPS... I have sent him many dimensions and photos of parts for the RPS so I know that he is working on these drawings... I don't want to endulge his name without prior permission so maybe he will shed some light if he is anywhere close to releasing these plans.. If he isn't anywhere close, then hopefully these plans aren't too far in the future... Sorry If I couldn't be anymore help but I don't know of anyone else with a set of these plans.... |

Joe, I think you're being a little overly protective of this scoundrel. I mean, hey! we've got boats to restore and seats to build. This chap needs to get off his duff and produce those drawings, no? |

Well Tom, If the Shoe Fits??? I'm sure this person may not have enough to do... He is probably off basking in the sun off Cabo, or Hawaii as we speak.... Maybe even having a Margarita or two... :-) And he didn't even invite us to go with him...... |

I have that seat back in my Katama. I will try to get into the boat in the next few days and make some drawings for you. I'll also email them to anyone else who wants them. |

I have drawings just about done for a Montauk RPS - I should be able to finish detailing them tonight, and get them out tonight or tomorrow. First thing I'll do is send them to Joe Kriz (Whalersman) so he can upload them to his Whaler Drawing website, and to Tom Clark. Anybody who needs them before Joe posts them, e-mail me at the address in my profile.. kingfish |

Joe, I've had those drawings basically done since we last talked about them earlier this summer but have not been able to get them into a pdf. Right now I'm trying to switch over to a new Mac and get used to OSX plus I have new version of my CAD software I'm trying to figure out. Is there anyway to create a pdf if you don't own the full blown Adobe Acrobat? What other formats might be universally accessible? |

Tom- I draw in Adobe Photo Deluxe, a way scaled-down version of Photo Shop, I think; it allows me to save documents in .pdf format, even though I don't have Adobe Acrobat on this computer (I do at work). You have e-mail, and contrary to what I said earlier, I think I'll hold off distributing my plans until I hear from you, so there's no unnecessary duplication. John |

Tom, One of the nicest things OS X has is the ability to save things in .pdf form... When your document (drawing) is on the screen, go to the File, Print Window. Instead of choosing Print, Choose "Save as .pdf" ..... This is a great feature as you don't have to own Adobe Acrobat to save things in .pdf form..... Joe |

John, By all means, share. This forum is (or at least was) about sharing useful information. I'm still struggling with my computer. I need help from somebody who knows Macs. Joe? |

OK, back to Plan I- Drawings will go out tonight or tomorrow, upon completion of detail, to Joe and those who e-mail me and request them. Tom has a progress set. kf |

Tom tried to get a e-mail out to you but bounced back. If you or anyone else reading this gets a chance to send out the RPS plans or drawings please include me in the mailing. Damn New York state worker took seatback off before the boat made it to auction. Shane |

The replacement lip and liner is black, Perko part no 483- DP1, and the top of the tube is not flared. I realize this is not Whaler original for the purists, but Tom Clark searched hard for the white flared lip covers and could not find them. I think the black looks good with the other black accents on the console, etc. I will post the price for the polished 2" diameter 11" tubes with mounting holes shortly. |

Whalersman, shoctor, geohjr and whalerific- I've had the plans completed for a few days now, and got copies off to Tom Clark, but have had some really ugly software compatibility problems develop on my PC that have taken up way more of my time to sort out than I had available. Got everything back but Outlook, and it doesn't look like that's going to happen; but that's a whole 'nother, long and off-topic story... I'm going to try and send the the plans out to you guys "toot sweet". kf |

Joe- You're welcome - it was a gas finding out I can manipulate CAD software and pretty much make it do what I want it to do - and it kept me occupied over the Thanksgiving holiday. geohjr- I tried sending some stuff to you directly, but it bounced back as undeliverable, although seemingly from another friend here on the forum with similar first name and last initial as you - I don't know if I got your addresses crossed up in my address book, or what... |

Kingfish, Thanks you for all your effort in producing these plans. I have my RPS seatback sitting on my workbench as I type. I was planning on working on it this winter and this information will be a big help. I did a calculation using Autocad, a computer drafting program I use at work, and found that the angle of the slope of the front and back is approx. 5 1/2 degrees off the vertical(90deg.)or 84 1/2 degrees off the horizontal(0deg). This will be helpful to know when setting your table or radial arm saw to cut the end pieces and the angled long sides of the bottom piece. (For all the perfectionists out there, the actual angles are 5.4403 degrees or 84.5597 degrees.) I hope this added information is helpful for all you weekend woodworkers(including me!). Ding |

Ding- You're welcome - and thank you. Those angles *are* important and useful information and I had intentions at one time of calculating them and including them in with the drawings, but that notion ran away from me some where along the line. I'll probably update my drawings to include them, thanks to your help. I used Turbo-Cad (low dollar answer to Auto-Cad), and was pretty proud of myself having never opened up a CAD program before Thanksgiving. I had made other drawings and earlier drawings of the RPS with various programs that were really designed for working with photos; it was a real joy to see some of the neat things a CAD program will do, and to find how fun it is to draw with a program that is designed to do just that! kf |
