I have a push pull morse control steering unit on my 17 montauk, which has too much play in it. (maybe 10 degrees). Is there a way to fix this, or is the problem most likely my sending unit or the cable itself. The cable is red, which I think denotes the size (diameter) of the cable.

Another question is the cable standard, because if I have to replace the sending unit, I would like to upgrade to the teleflex no feed back unit.

All help is appreciated.

You probably just have some worn cable connections. Check these out both at the motor and at the helm. You might need to replace a bushing or two. Or, depending upon the setup, you might just need to tighten a few nuts that came loose.
