I am wanting to place a 24v troll motor on the transom of my 84 Montauk. Has any one installed three batteries in the console of a Montauk with good results?

Chad -

I've place a single in two different Montauks and currently have a dual setup in an older Outrage....the one that has the smaller Montauk type console. If you mounted them so the long portion of the battery(box) is aligned bow/stern, you might be able to fit them.

One need to either cut openings in the console floor so the box will rest on the hull, or brace the floor from underneath. The standard console floor is not strong enough to hold even one battery.

By adding two risers under the console, the two boxes barely protrude into the console area. Actually just the battery box lids. The box it self is flush to the console floor.

Chad, I agree with Don- I have a 17' montauk and there aint much room for anything without doing some mods. What Don suggested sounds good- I just have one in mine but in my 18' dauntless I have three batteries in the console -two for accesories and the starter batteries which are all hooked up to onboard chargers- When I return from fishin al I have to do is plug in an extension cord to the boat and it keeps them all topped off- I'm currently redoing a 21' outrage (an old 73') (which Don was nice enough to give me some solid advise on since we have the same yr and model) and my plans for that are two batteries in the console for the accessories and one in the rear of the boat inside the gunwale for the starter battery and again these will have onboard chargers. The only other thing I could suggest which I'm not sure it would be a feasable option for you is to build a battery box enclosed to also serve as a small bench type seat in the rear of the boat to sit on when your motoring that trolling motor (assuming its a tiler steer?) you would even gain a little dry storage left over. Just a thought??

i have a 24 volt trolling motor on my montauk. i have two 24 group batteries for the trolling motor and one 24 group starting battery.

i have the three holes cut through the bottom on the console so that the battery boxes sit directly on the floor.

i have an onboard charger hooked to them so that i don't need any external chargers, plug ins, extension cords etc.
