Hi, I would alike to get ahold of dimensions or patterns for the wood for a 15 ft Sport. Most of the old wood is there but is beaten up pretty badly. Any help would be appreceiated. Thanks, John Walleye Guy

John,How beaten up is the old wood? Rot? Damage? I thought I was going to need to replace wood when I refinished my 15. Looked at it carefully and found it was something that could be worked with. Very time consuming though. Alot quicker to replace most but I wanted to keep the original wood. The console side is a bit tricky. I figure the boat has given me back what time I have into it. I have some rough dimensioned sketches done when I dissassembled the Sport. Detailed dimensions are all there, probably legible with a little bit of study. Let me know and I'll scan them. There's a nice drawing for some of the 13's wood here. Very similar to the 15. A search on wood will probably get you to it. Good luck! Sounds like an enjoyable project. Paul |

Hi Paul, It's a 1979. Yes I would like to see what you have, esp the console. The boat was owned by the Corps of Engineers. Am not too worried about the seat and the side rails but the console looks cobbled up. Like they added some heigth by using a metal spacer of the port side and elimated the wood altogether on the starboard side. An oddity, the ser no is 1381 79A which boston whaler purportedly says is not a 15 ' Sport at all. but in fact it is. Thanks for getting back to me Paul. I'm in Iowa City IA, where are you if you don't mind stating same for all to see? Later, John |

Paul, The wood has seen a lot of UV. The finish has blistered and peeled off and the edges of the boards are rough. Some semblance of the finish is left but only in small areas. The wood may be salvageable but I'm not counting on it for use in the Whaler. Maybe as a decorative source for picture frames, etc. C ya, John |

John,Located in Birmingham, MI. Most of my boating is done on Lakes Huron, St. Clair and Michigan. Iowa City? Not far from the Mississipi isn't it? Do you think the corps used the Sport on the river? Wood sounds similar to what mine was like. Sent you before and after pictures of the console. More available if you want for reference. Also sent scans of sketches. What does Whaler say the boat is supposed to be? Paul |

Paul, Nice to be on the big lakes. We're 35 miles from Muscatine, which is the closest town to IC that is on the Mississippi. I fish below the lock and dam there for walleye and sauger in the fall and early winter until the ramp ices up. I also fish several lakes in Iowa for walleye and crappie. I have not talked to Whaler myself yet. I did try to go into there website to do a ser no check. The previous owner spoke with them 2-3 years ago and they said it was a Dauntless (?). He didnt'remember for sure. But it will be the same when I get around to calling. Ironically, that probably means there is a Duantless owner who is being told they have a 15" Sport. Are the pics coming to my email? Thanks, John

Paul, The -l- needs to go between john and keller such that:john-l-keller@uiowa.edu or it gets routed to the other John Keller who does not forward mail on to me. Thanks for the thought and your efforts. John |

John,Tried sending the information again. Let me know if you receive it or not. St. Clair is a pretty good lake for Walleye. I bet the Mississippi has it's own charm. Make sure you post what you're going to be doing with the wood. Paul |

I have the original console and side rails from a 1977 15' Whaler and was going to put them on eBay when the weather got warmer. I'll take a photo ASAP and send it to you. |

I have no idea of the value. I thought that I would put the console and the two side boards on eBay with a $50 minimum bid and see what happens.... |

David, Well, it's up to you. E-bay finds a price that the market will bare which may be fairer to you. And it will give others a shot at it as well, which is fine with me. I would participate on ebay up to what I would consider my max bid. I'd have to think about what that figure would be. E bay is your best bet. John |
