I was thinking of putting "smart tabs" on an 18' outrage. Has anyone done this before ?? Any thoughts.

Might be of some marginal use if you're runnin' an under-powered boat; that would be anythin' less than 120 h.p. on that hull. Otherwise, a properly powered Outrage 18' has no need for trim tabs.

Hooter - Trim tabs can also help with roll trim. Rather than asking a fat ass like me to move to the other side of the boat to shift the center of gravity, one can add a little trim tab and not have to constantly steer to correct your course....

Right, AL-a-buy. And tabs prob'ly be cheaper in the long run than a large dog or small wife, either of will level your boat while under way just as well. Food for thought:-!

I agree with Al_A_By re: the usefulness of tabs to offset prop torque or wind lean (roll); however, I really don't think "smart tabs" will do those things, unless they're smarter than I thin they are. You will need a set of full grown trim tabs to to that.

My understanding of "smart tabs" is that they are basically un-controlled, spring loaded tabs that give up their effectiveness as speed increases and the water gets harder; they have no ability to act individually, giving more lift to one side or the other.
