On the trailer ride home on Saturday, my 1982 Evinrude 90 leaked gas out of the front into the splash well. I saw the copious archive threads and realize that is normal. However, when I fired it up a few hours later, it ran very rough.

My question is could the fuel leak out of the carb cause damage to the carbs, for example by screwing up the floats?

The carbs were overhauled within the last month and the engine was running terrific before the gas leak.

Spark is fine.

Anyone have any experience with this particular problem?

It sounds like one of your carbs is flooding. This is very common and usually happens when debris is holding the float needle open or your float is working properly. Take off your air box and see which carb is leaking then you must take the carb apart and clean it. Good luck and post again.
