I have an 1961 Eastport with a white deck that needs to be rebuilt. What kind of wood is [the deck constructed from] and how can I get the [original] plans?

The 16-foot Whaler hull did not appear in the catalogue until 1962, so it is a curious that you have a 1961 Eastport!

The bow deck wooden insert was introduced in 1963 on the SAKONNET model. I believe it was made from pine and was delivered with a coat of white paint.

If you have an existing factory bow deck platform you could use it as a pattern.

You can find a index of available drawings for components of classic Boston Whaler boats in the Reference Section of this website. See;

Joe Kriz has published a PDF document that contains the original plans from Boston Whaler for the bow deck platform from the Sakonnet. That document is listed in the index mentioned above. You can retrieve it from Joe's website at:

The difference between an EASTPORT and a SAKONNET is also in the seating at the helm. The Eastport had a fixed bench seat, while the Sakonnet had the very desirable Reversible Pilot Seat. This may help you further identify your boat.
