I have a 1988 Outrage 22 and have decided on installing a new fuel tank as part of my restoration.

Who is the best source for a replacement tank?

Should I use aluminum or fiberglass?

Fina, please keep us posted on your tank replacement and photograph the process as you go. Lot's of us are teetering on the edge of that intimidating project and could use the encouragement!

Most fuel tanks in the belly cavity of Boston Whaler boats from c.1988 were manufactured by Florida Marine Tanks (FMT).

There should be a prominent label on the tank near the fill inlet and fuel gauge area that shows the tank maker.

Currently in the marine industry there are some proponents who recommend not using foam encapsulation with aluminum tanks.

Fina,

Just going through the same process myself. FL Marine Tanks will do it for $600. They built the original tanks. I will be foaming mine in this week. What condition was your deck? My plywood was completely shot and had to be ground out and replaced. Big job but glad it's done.
