i have twin 1996 200hp mercs. the rpms on one of the tachs will sometimes go higher then the other. sometimes when i'm going fast the one tach will pin itself. i've replaced the voltage regulators but it still does it. what else should i check, tach, ground. etc.

I had the same problem and JimH told me how to fix it. Rotate the POLE SELECTOR on the back of the tachs a few time. Evidently the contacts can corrode a little and need to be re-contacted once in a while. This is assuming you don't have a RECTIFIER problem, since that is actually what controls the tach. |
