I have been looking through old posts and playing with the search function but am having a hard time finding what I need. What is the best way to remove the console doors and trim from a 1989 18' outrage? I plan on stripping the wood this weekend, sanding it and applying some spar varnish. I am not looking to debate whether I should stain, oil or varnish just what is the easiest way to remove the teak. I do not plan on removing the teak gunnels, however I will remove the hardware before I strip sand and refinish. Thanks for your help. -Michael

Screwdriver? I believe that all of the teak and mahogany trim on my 22' Outrage was attached with s/s bolts or screws. |

Phillips head and a socket. They are installed with small machine bolts w/locknut on inside. |

Use a #2 Phillips head screw driver to hold the machine screws in place (at least initially) and use a nut driver with a deep 3/8" socket to unscrew the nylock lock nuts on the inside. You're going to have to get down on the floor of the boat and use every inch of arm reach you possess if you're doing this by yourself. |

I did this last fall. I used new SS slotted screws in place of the Phillips Heads as the Phillips seemed to strip easily. I found that some of the dowels used to connect the door trim pieces had rotted. I made new dowels out of hard wood and glued with Gorilla Glue. While the wood is off the console it is a good time to clean, compound and Finesse the fiberglass. Also a great time to address any electrical issues as the access is much improved with doors, hatches, and fire extinguisher box removed. |

Some here have confessed to lettin' carpenter aints do it for them, but the route advised by Mr Clark up above is much quicker. If you're in a hurry, that is. |

I have a 1989 18' Outrage and currently in the process of a complete rebuild. I removed all items on the center console including all teak, gauges, hydrualic steering pump, shift control, window, railings, etc simply by using a screw driver and wrench. You should not have any trouble removing the items unless someone has bedded them with 5200 as an aftermarket change.John |
