I have a 1979 15 footer with a side console. I am planning on increasing the height of the console 4 or 5 inches and moving the steering wheel closer to the starboard gunwale. The reason for the shift is to better accommodate installing two bolt on seats. My question to the group is will shifting the steering wheel/seating position over adversely effect the handling of my boat?
Thanks
Mike

Moving weight to the right will be advantageous in that the boat tends to list to port when on a plane.

Just a note from my experience .... the 15 hull is more sensitive to side to side weight distribution than the 13 or larger Whaler hulls. I have a 15 Sport that I have setup with 4 Tempress boat seats. (seat backs enhance the fun factor enormously) The helm seat is attached to a seat slide that allows for about 8" of side to side adjustment. The forward port seat is also attached to the same type of side slider. The sliders allow for repositioning when the rear of the seat is tipped up about 6" and lock side motion when the seat is tipped back down. I have not noticed as much fore & aft attitude change with weight as side to side causing list and tracking issues. The 2 slides I installed allow for just about any correction to list conditions at both slow and planning speeds. My loading ranges from 1 to 5 people of "varying" weights.

My spring project is to raise the console 4" and the seats 3". I will retain the seat side slides for list control and improve the ride confort with the additional seat height.

Just my thoughts ...
