'83 Johnson 115 apparently has broken ring in one cylinder. No gouges in the walls but very light scuffing. Seaway Marine rep says breaking end of ring is common. Trying to determine if honing and new rings will do.

For reference this problem has been posted before. THis post is a progress report.

Finally found a bore gauge to check cylinder, but along the way got agreement from machine shop mic the cylinder while engine is back of the pickup. Expert micing and opinion on source and required fix. A real win, win, win deal.

Of course, the bigger question is why the ring problem in a fresh rebuild, and if one cylinder, will the other three follow. Remember from 2 stroke motorcycle racing days something about chamfering the port edges to prevent
snagging rings. Don't know if that applies here but unwise to run a bare finger with any pressure along edge of the ports as they are now.
