I just bought a 97 Montauk and it has 2 oil containers in the console. One for the main motor and one for the kicker.

I added oil to the kicker VRO and after running it for a few minutes it died. I later drained the carb and it was full of oil. It ran fine on my pre-mix gas I used. I also noticed that I left the oil cap loose. I think this may be the problem.

The kicker only has one line in so the VRO must mix the gas, then goes into the motor. How does that work?

Thanks!

tak2,

Your kicker does not have VRO. By your description I assume it has an Accu-Mix system which mixes oil at a set ratio of 50:1 as fuel is drawn into it and thence to the kicker. The mixing is accomplished mechanically at the Accu-Mix unit.

If the gas/oil ratio is too rich, you need to replace the Accu-Mix unit or use a separate fuel tank with premixed 50:1 fuel.

OK, Thanks for the explaination! I'll purge the lines and hope it works. I hope the Accu-mix works correctly and the mixture problem was due to the loose oil cap.
