Looking closely at a 1985 17 Montuak that I am considering buying. Boat is very clean with the exception of some damage to the "keel" area where the blue/green laminate can be seen. Appears to be from beaching or trailer issues. Damage is along the leading edge and is approx 2 feet in length. My question is how involved/costly would this be to repair and what are the chances of significant water sepage. I did not see any core/foam showing through just the beige gelgoat fractured and the blue showing through.(1/2 wide in some places.) Boat has been stored ona trailer most of its life. This would be my first whaler so attacking this as a do it yourself job is a bit intimidating and I want to make sure this isnt a huge red flag. Any help/comments would be greatly appreciated.

I would not be concerned about water seepage as it was trailered and could not have absorbed anything to speak of.

Sounds like a good project for you....

You may find reading my article on minor hull repair to be informative. I was in a similar situation when I bought my first Boston Whaler. See:
