The previous owner of my 1975 Montauk filled several old screw holes below the waterline (looks like multiple old transducer mountings) with silicone sealant. Ovewre the winter I pulled off/out all the silicone (it was bone dry!) drilled out the holes, pumped in some 5200, inserted wood dowels and then filled last 3/4 inch with 5200.

Question:
Can I countersink into 5200 and cover with Spectrum Gelcoat Paste? Will Gelcoat bond to the 5200?...or at least get grip on edge of hole and hull if I rough it up a bit?

I did that EXACT thing using 5200 and Spectrum paste/patch kit. Seems to be holding fine, although I am certainly no expert!

Why not counter sink and then use Epoxy and either gel coat over that or use bottom paint? It might be over kill but I prefer the West System epoxy as my best defense from moisture.
