Hi all,

I've discovered some damage under the rub rail near the bow of my 1986 Outrage 18. The rub rail is new, I think the previous owner may have put on the new rail to cover the damage that I just found. How does the rub rail come off or can I just move the section I need to work on out of the way. Will I be able to put it back in place. Thanks for any and all help. Peter

Peter,
You can remove the rubber blumper from the channel by sliding it out or twisting it out of the channel, depending upon how much of the channel you need to remove. The channel will either be attached to the hull with pop rivets or screws.

I have recently removed the entire channel and bumper on my 1989 18' Outrage. You may prefer to "section" the damaged area out and only cut/remove the channel necessary to repair the hull damage. I would suggest that you do not cut the rubber bumper material. You will find that if you remove the bow chock assembly you could remove only the screws or rivets required to allow the channel to "straighten out" and be out of your way while doing the repairs, then just re-attach the channel when you hull is repaired. That way you do no need to cut the channel or bumper.

Thanks John, I'll give it a try this week. Peter
