My 2001 13 Sport steering has suddenly become VERY stiff. I've greesed the two fittings on the steering rod, as well as on the vertical engine axis. Any ideas what the problem is?

I really don't know what I'm talking about here, but I see this question alot. Can you remove the linkage to the motor, to determine if it is the motor or the cable that is stiff? Have you driven it yet this year and it was fine? (Hence your use of "suddenly") I have heard some of the guys up north make similar comments, but were usually attributed to lack of use through the extreme cold weather.

Sorry for not being very helpful, but I'm about to switch to a Teleflex, and am trying to learn as much about them as possible before refitting my hull.

Thanks,
Ryan

I'm working on replacing my steering on my boat. I was searching this board and found your posting. You might want to refer to this article if you haven't solved your problem:
