I picked up a 13 Sport last week with a '94 injected 4 cylinder Merc.. I've burned 13 gallons of gas alleady the last couple days & this engine didnt even hiccup.. I'm leary of the oil injection however mainly because theres no warning systems on my rig, I see a harness with a female connection coming from the controls, is this for a warning system ? Also, does anyone know the reputations of these Merc injection systems in '94, it's gravity fed, I like that but considering it's 10 yrs. old should I consider bypass this system & premixing it ? .. thanks , Alan

Can't speak on the wiring, your best to buy a Seloc manual for that. I do know that people remove the early Merc injection systems from the late 80's and go premix. I don't know anyone that has seen their injection fry an engine, in fact the opposite, anyone I know that had it pulled off is because it went full rich and was eating oil at twice the rate as premixing. The only warning most of them had was low oil anyway, they didn't warn of a failing system. Your choice, but if it works, why fix it? Greg |

Greg, thanks for the reply & info on the Seloc manual.. I put about 3 more hours on it yesterday & this engine runs nice & I dont believe it's using too much oil.. Theres a sight glass built into the engine cover for oil level on this thing & I keep it topped off anyways so if the warning systems for low oil only then I wouldnt need that..Alan |
