I am working on an omc motor with a stainless pivot steering arm and need to replace one of the two upper mounting bolts of which the head has sheared off. Has anyone got an easy way to get out the bolt?

I'm thinking of welding a bolt head to the shank or even a 1/2" to 3/8" socket reducer. Unfortunately the shank is left flush with pivot arm so I cannot get any purchase with vise grips.

Also is this a common problem with these all stainless motors? I'm beggining to worry about my other one now and am thinking of replacing the bolts just as a form of P.M. but fear breaking the bolt heads off of them.

The answer was simple! I took it to a repair shop and they dismantled the engine and replaced both upper motor mounts, the lower were in good condition. As far as I can tell the did NOT need to remove the powerhead for this model. 4 hrs labor + parts.
