I've seen a lot of discussion about trim tabs with the pros and cons. I am looking at a hydrofoil that attaches to the outboard. The advertisements list the benefits to include better fuel economy. The cruising speeeds are lower because the boat planes at lower RPMs. Can anyone enlighten me on what the benefits really are, if any? Dave

Trim tabs are better but hydrofoils work. Neither will increase speed or mileage, both will plant the bow to slice through chop instead of ponding over it. Tabs can trim the boat from side to side for load imbalance. For a small skiff it's hard to beat the simplicity of a hydrofoil. |
