I have a 1978 85 horsepower, V4 Evinrude. I have 4 cylinders and of course 4 spark plugs. I recently replaced the plugs with the factory specified plugs, and gapped them to .030 according to specs.

Everything seemed fine for a couple of long runs, but I later inspected the plugs and 3 out of 4 looked alike, but number 2 is different.

3/4 of the plugs have a light oil coat, but number 2 is dry and has a very slight "oxidation" look. Actually it looks a bit like corrosion, but the plug is only about 10 days old.

I ran all weekend fine, I ended the weekend on a long, slow troll for about an hour. I then opened her up and she revved higher than usual, like maxed out RPM at low speed. This was the first time she revved high like that.

I inspected the plugs and wires again and the only difference is the one plug that looks dry.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like it may be running lean in that cylinder.

How many carbs on that motor? If there are four, than my guess is one is clogged and your are not getting enough fuel.

I wouldn't run it anymore until you get it checked out.

Water intrusion? If your geting water in that cylinder it will cahnge the appearance of the plug.
