I just went to pick up a 6 inch clear Beckson deck plate for my Outrage at West Marine. Wrong size - out by maybe a quarter inch. I looked on CW and found Tom W Clark's posting as follows:
"so we know that Whaler started using Beckson at least as early as '86 and PYHI at least as late as '83. This seems sensible because we know PYHI went Tango Uniform, so logically Beckson would be a good choice.
Now here's my question: The PYHI and Beckson plates are different sizes. The inner hull of the Outrages (and others) had non-skid with circular areas devoid of non-skid where the deck plates went. Did Whaler actually change the mold to accomodate the change in deck plate size? Or is the mold the same and the holes were drilled after lay-up? By this I mean did they take a hole saw or router at the factory to make the hole for the deck plates, or did the mold itself have the hole and the necessary lip already in place for the particular deck plate? If the former, then a guy could retrofit a Beckson plate in place of a PYHI by enlarging the hole and lip within the non-skid free area."
Did this ever get resolved? HELP!!
I realize now that I must have a PYHI deck plate - clear plate to be able to read my fuel gauge. So maybe my only solution is to replace the PYHI plate and it's deck "flange" with the Beckson unit and hope that I don't have to sabre-saw the deck to fit the Beckson flange.
An easier solution is to find a pristine PYHI clear deck plate to press into the flange I already have installed on my deck. Right - and salmon have wings.
