Hello folks, I had to replace a defective ignition switch on my Montauk. The old part number had been replaced by a new part number and the color code did not match up. With help from this web site (LGH) and others, I replaced the switch.
Here is the conversion that I used:
New Switch - Mercury Old Switch - Mercury
Part #: 87-88107A 5 Part #: 87-88107 A2 Rev B
Wire Color Code to Wire Color Code
Red > Red
Red > Red
Purple > Yellow
Purple > Yellow
Black > Black
Black > Black
Black/yellow > White
Black/yellow > Black/yellow
Yellow/black > Blue
Yellow/Red > Brown
As luck would have it, everything worked on the first try.
