I just bought a '94 Outrage 19! I picked up some Yacht Brite "Brite Wash", mixed it according to directions (3 capfuls to 2 gallons of water) and did some scrubbing of the hull. I stopped because I noticed the water running down the bottom paint was creamy white!

I figured it was because I was using a brush, so I changed over to a soft sponge, but it still happened. "Brite Wash" says it is safe with gelcoat.

I did some searches of the forum and found a reference to Star Brite products. Should I pick up their "Boat Wash" product instead?

Or, is this just normal?

The only time I saw creamy white rinse water was the first few times I washed my 1991 Montauk, when a got it a few years back. The hull was sun damaged and the gel coat was oxidized, but looked really good when the hull was still wet from washing. Once it dried the shine was gone. The color layer of the gel coat was still good on my boat. I ended up wet sanding the entire boat (Lots of white rinse water) and spraying several coat of clear coat over the entire boat. That was four years now, no problems and still looks great. No more white rinse water.

There are other methods of restoring the gel coat, compounding, buffing and painting. You just need to read some of the older posts.

Good Luck
