The trim indicator on my '95 Mercury 150 was kaput and in removing the old indicator, one of the stainless machine screws snapped (galvanic corrosion). There is about 1/8" exposed (just enough to clamp on vise grips, but not enough for any torque). I am thinking about using my Dremel moto-tool to (carefully) cut a notch in the bolt to use a screwdriver. It appears that there is about another 1/8" inside the motor housing. Thanks in advance.

You probably won't have enough metal left after cutting the slot to have any strength. I would just go with vice grips (new good ones).. Lots of penitrating oil over a day or 2 before. Don't try to just turn it out but rather work slowly in and out. Work it free, don't try to turn it all in one shot.

If it breaks, drill out the remainder and use a Heli coil of the right size to fix it. At least with a Heli coil in there you will never face the same problem again.

Thanks, Greg. I'll give the vise-grip/heli coil plan a shot.
