I was wanting to get peoples opinion on "Awlgrip" and "Interlux Perfection" before I paint my 1968 whaler with one. Also I have a little hair line crack in my gel coat. I know that "Awlgrip" makes a high build and ultra high build primer. I was want to know if anyone has experiments with this product and if it would hide this crack and imperfections. Also do you prefer to us a hvlp spray or roll & tip method.

Thanks for the help before I start my project. This website is turtly amazing with people sharing information and tips.

Just sand the hairline crack out. Its only in the gelcoat anyway, and will disapear with sanding. I assume your going to sand the hull anyway, so just fill any holes with Marine-tex, sand the entire hull, prime with Awlgrip 545 primer, fill any imperfection that you still see, and prime again. I used their high build primer, and didn`t like it as it is thicker and seems softer, and the paint had more of a tendency to chip over the years. If you type in Awlgrip on E-Bay, you will find an aution for a VCR tape, "Brushing with Awlgrip". I have one. It looks real simple, but I have never tried it. Spraying is faster. I haven`t tried Perfection YET, but I think its less costly.I`m about ready to spray a 17 foot Bass boat , but it looks like these hurricanes might get in the way again. Its going to be a long summer.
